Anti-Allergen Cleaning Program

What are allergies?

Allergies create serious health problems. They are the sixth leading cause of chronic disease in the United States, and are the most frequently reported chronic illness in children. Allergens are found in indoor or outdoor environments and most allergens enter the body through inhalation. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has found that indoor air pollution is one of the top five environmental risks to public health. Since our homes are so energy efficient nowadays, our levels of indoor pollutants are up to 100 times more concentrated indoors than outdoors. That’s important news, since Americans spend up to 90% of their time indoors!

For those who do suffer with allergies, their bodies have gone through what’s called sensitization. This occurs when the body is overexposed to certain allergens, and mistakes these harmless environmental substances as materials that cause illness or infection. The body’s immune system responds by producing IgE antibodies to defend against these allergens. They act like a “key” that fits into the allergen “lock”. So when the antibody finds an allergen, the “key” fits into the “lock” and sets off a chain reaction, causing an unpleasant allergic reaction. Allergic illnesses often lead to much more serious respiratory illnesses such as sinusitis and asthma. Dust mites are responsible for 25% of all allergies and are one of the leading causes of asthma worldwide.

Dust mites are microscopic-- 7,000 of them can fit on your fingernail! They live on dead human skin cells and water vapor, which they get from our perspiration and respiration. You can keep cleaning, but you’ll never totally get rid of them. Dust mite feces is one of the most hazardous allergens found indoors. A dust mite will produce 200 times its own body weight in feces during its approximate 10-week lifetime. Over half of the dust mites live in our mattresses, and when we toss and turn in our sleep, dust mite feces are thrown into the air from our bedding and pillows. These potent allergens can linger in the air for up to two hours, and are inhaled where they can cause allergic reactions-- even asthma attacks.

The second biggest trigger in indoor air is animal (pet) dander. Many people think that the hair or fur trigger pet allergies. It’s not the actual hair that causes the allergic reaction-- it’s the allergens carried on the hair. People with pet allergies are allergic to a protein found in pet dander, oils secreted by the skin glands, saliva and urine. All of these allergens are found on the pet’s hair. Maybe you don’t own a pet, but these allergens are also found in workplaces, schools and public buildings.

What can be done to help control allergies?

Environmental control incorporates various strategies to avoid or control these potent allergens. These efforts include using mattress covers, HEPA air cleaners, specialized vacuum cleaners, among other things. But now there's a new revolutionary anti-allergen cleaning and treatment program called the ResponsibleCare System ® which reduces the levels of serious allergens by 90% or more! Never before has there been such a dramatic decrease in these potent allergens!

How does the ResponsibleCare System work?

The ResponsibleCare System involves three steps: Vacuuming, steam cleaning using the specially formulated cleaning agents, and applying Allergy Relief Treatment™-- the revolutionary product that actually changes the shape of the allergen proteins, making them unrecognizable to the body as allergens! Since the allergens do not appear as the "lock" to the body, the antibody "key" does not bind with them and there is no allergic reaction! Allergy Relief Treatment is effective on dust mite, cat and dog allergen. It's a water-based solution that contains a powerful active ingredient derived from naturally occurring extracts found in certain fruit and vegetable seeds. This active ingredient has been scientifically proven to reduce indoor allergen concentrations below the levels that can cause allergy symptoms.

What's involved with this cleaning program?

ACE Carpet & Upholstery Care will first vacuum with an externally vented vacuum, then steam clean using the ResponsibleCare System's cleaning agents, and finally apply Allergy Relief Treatment. Since the greatest concentration of dust mites are found in the bedroom, it's imperative that treatment starts there. ACE Carpet & Upholstery Care steam cleans all sides of the mattress using a low moisture setting, leaving it as dry as possible. The Allergy Relief Treatment is then applied to the entire mattress surface.  The mattress is placed in a drying position with an air mover to speed up the dry time. While cleaning takes place, it's highly recommended that the bedding and pillows be washed in hot water and that two cups of Allergy Relief Treatment (which ACE can provide) be added during the rinse cycle. This same cleaning method is used on carpeting, rugs and upholstered furniture.
